The mind-body connection is very powerful, and you can use it to reprogram your body to elicit healing. The truth is that every word spoken in anger has an effect on the human body. On the other hand, every word spoken with love and compassion also has an effect, a positive healing effect. Therefore, a healing meditation can help redress and restore the damaging done by words and their emotional effects.
Your body also responds to your thoughts. In the experiment done by Masaru Emoto, who wrote the book “The Hidden Messages in Water” he demonstrated this effect using two jars filled with rice. In the experiment, two jars filled with cooked rice were placed side by side. One jar was labeled “Love” and the other “Hate”.
Every day, words of love and affection were spoken to the love jar while words of hate and ugliness were spoken to the hate jar. After several days of work, the hate jar began developing ugly brown spots, where the love jar stayed beautiful and white.
The human body is much the same as the jar of rice. Every time you speak words of love and affection and appreciation, your body responds in a positive manner. The rice experiment demonstrates the power of positive thinking over negative thinking and it’s really quite amazing.
Meditation allows you to tap into your own healing power and shed painful emotional burdens and self-defeating thoughts. Meditation helps by melting away the mental and emotional layers, which can cause stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety can build up in the body, eventually leading to disease. Meditation also helps release stress, which can help you better manage your life.
Meditation can help you ward off depression, anxiety, sadness, shame and even pain and illness to some extent. Little by little meditation helps you break through the ice and release your pain. Let’s look at a simple meditation for healing now.
Just relax and breathe deeply. You might imagine yourself sitting at the beach or even sitting by a lovely pond or a beautiful lake.
Now begin by taking a deep breath in. Spend a few moments grounding and centering yourself. Take two to three more deep and cleansing breaths and allow the stress and tension to fade away.
Imagine your breath as it moves through your body. Hold your breath in for a count of 5 seconds, and allow the breath to start healing and collecting damaged tissue and cells. The breath is your life force and it can heal you and cleanse the body.
The breath itself is very healing and restorative. Take another long, slow deep breath in and feel your breath as it moves around your body. Notice how nice it feels to be able to take a deep and cleansing breath.
Now think about your lovely healing spot once again, and take yourself there in your mind. See yourself sitting in front of a lake, sitting at the beach or sitting in a beautiful field of flowers.
Take a moment to express appreciation for your body. Thank your body for supporting you all of these years. Thank your legs and your feet, thank your thighs, and thank your stomach. Work your way up the body and continue expressing gratitude for all of those parts of your body you often overlook, including the muscles, the organs and the skin.
Take as much time as you need expressing this gratitude to your amazing body.
Now take another deep breath in and imagine that your breath is literally cleansing the inside of your body. Imagine a lovely white healing light is entering in through your breath, and moving around your body collecting stress and tension that have built up over time. As this beautiful white color moves through your body, imagine it is collecting damaged tissues along the way.
Now gently exhale and imagine your breath as a color, as it leaves your body. You may even choose to imagine the breath is gray or dirty as it leaves your body, traveling out into the air where the plants and the atmosphere will clean it once again.
The breath is healing your body and taking with it whatever does not serve your highest good. Continue breathing in the pure white color of healing and exhaling out negative energy and debris until you notice the energy around you clearing.
Just enjoy some quiet time at this lovely place, relaxing and drifting and dreaming. Spend as long as you like – there is no rush.
Just continue breathing in and out and enjoy this lovely relaxing feeling. As you return to conscious awareness, know that your breath has the ability to heal your body.
